Project Christmas! Pops Present.....

Dear Pops,

So Daddy and I have been so excited about preparing for Christmas. Last Christmas was your first but we missed a lot of the festive fun and activities as we moved house ten days before Christmas.

This year is different, we have plenty of activities and adventures planned for the festive season. Most of our Christmas shopping is done and wrapped and the decorations are out of the loft.

But this letter isn't about what we have planned, its about your Christmas present! And I am so excited about this!

A while ago Daddy and I decided that we wanted to get you a play kitchen, we have been searching high and wide for the right one. We wanted a wooden one, as we get sick of the massive plastic creations that fill your bedroom.

A lot of the wooden play kitchens are quite pricey, and the ones that are reasonably priced seem cheap and flimsy. Then, we found this little beauty from Ikea!

And it was on sale!!!!!!!!! I do love a bargain.

It arrived and we were so pleased with the quality, its really sturdy and well made. But if I'm honest I was a bit underwhelmed by its appearance. It just looked a bit boring for a toddler.

After a quick google search I found that people had been customising these little beauts! And it was then, in that moment that 'Project Christmas' was born!

I decided to customise it!

The first step was to work out all the pieces that I was going to paint and then to sand them down. I made sure to only sand very light (My Dads advice) as I just wanted to rough the surface a bit but didn't want to scratch it.

Once all the boring sanding was done and the wood was wiped down it was prime time!

I opted for spray paints as I wanted a clean finish. It was quick to apply and dried very quickly (perfect for me as I am quite impatient).

I decided that I would keep most of the front white and add some pink to the sides and top section.

I decided that I wanted to do something a bit more interesting then just pink on the lower sides, I toyed with the idea of painting flowers or fairies, but I was too worried that I would mess them up. In the end I settled on doing some stripes so painted a coat of white then used some masking tape to make stripes.

Then it was on to the final coat of pink. After that I removed the masking tape and hoped for the best! I was pretty pleased with the results.

Not bad huh? I was so excited to get it built but resisted the temptation to do it without Daddy. You see I don't have the best flat pack track record. Don't tell Daddy I admitted this though, he will never let me live it down!

Anyway I waited and Daddy put the Kitchen together, Daddy is quite handy but it still took him a few hours. But I was so pleased once he was done.

I still need to add some finishing touches (I will do another post when its done!) but I am so happy with how it turned out. I just hope you will be as pleased with it come Christmas day!

I love Pops and I hope that you have the most magical Christmas!

Lots of love Mamma xxx
