Introducing my 30 before 30...

My blog is normally a space reserved for letters to my daughter Pops. But not this post. This post is just for me.

2015 is the year I turn 30. I don't know why but 30 kinda feels like a big deal. I think it just feels like I am finally going to have to start acting like a grown up (at least some of the time) now.

I am happy with where I am in my life. I have an amazing husband, we have had some wonderful adventures, we have our own home, I have my degree and we have our beautiful daughter, Pops.

Life is good.

But, I like having goals.

So I have decided to write a list of 30 thing's I would like to do before I turn 30. Now I feel a disclaimer is necessary here. This list will not be full of things like 'skydive' or 'go white water rafting'. Thrill seeker I am not. This is far more ordinary and realistic. But its my list and I am looking forward to ticking off each thing on it.

So with less then 6 months to go, here it is, my 30 before 30.....

1. Get to goal weight. I started losing weight last year and lost three stone. I would like to continue with that weight loss and reach my goal weight before I turn 30.

2. Go and see a musical. I saw Starlight express when I was about 12 and loved it. Ever since I have wanted to go and see another one and have just never got round to it.

3. Complete a photography course. I have signed up for one and am looking forward to getting stuck into it.

4. Read all of 'The Lord of the Rings' books. I have put off watching the films until I read the books and I really want to see those films!

5. Go for a spa day. This is something I have always wanted to do but have always found a better use for the money. Not this year!

6. Eat at a Michelin star restaurant. The hubs and I love going out to eat (hence why I am on a weight loss mission!) and have been to some lovely restaurants but I would love to try somewhere really special.

7. Go back to Centre Parcs. We went last year and loved it, but while we were there my Dad had a heart attack, I'd really like to go back with all the family and be able enjoy it with him.

8. I would like to visit all our local National Trust sites with Pops. We have some beautiful places locally and we really don't make the most of them. I am going to sign up for a membership to encourage us to visit them more often.

9. Learn how to cook something really fancy. I consider myself to be okay in the kitchen. I can whip up some pretty tasty meals but I'd like to learn how to make a real show stopper.

10. Get back into yoga. I find yoga so relaxing and energising but stopped doing it when Pops stopped having a morning nap.

11. Complete a couch to 5k challenge. I started this last year and did pretty good, then for one reason or another I stopped making the time to do it. I want to do better now. I want to make more of an effort to be healthy.

12. Grow my own. We are fortunate enough to have a good sized garden and I would like to start growing my own fruit and veg. I am keen to be a bit more self sufficient where possible but I also like the idea of teaching Pops where her food comes from.

13. Go to a drive in movie. We have somewhere locally that does this but have never been.

14. Learn some of the constellations. I love the stars. I have always loved the stars. I used to love sitting with my Dad while he set up his telescope and looked into space. I want to learn more about what I am looking at up there.

15. Learn to make choux pastry. I have tried and failed before. I want to perfect it.

16. Go to London and explore like a tourist. I live fairly close to London and have been many times but have never really enjoyed it like a proper tourist.

17. I want to dress better. I have a tendency to dress smart but plain. I am aiming to change that. I am going to start by sorting my wardrobe into outfits and giving anything to charity that I don't wear any more.

18. Start wearing my hair differently. I do the same thing with my hair everyday. Its tidy but its boring. I am going to try and 'style' my hair at least once a week.

19. I want to use my camera more and my phone less.

20. Visit the Eden Project. I really want to go, but it is quite a drive away so we will see how this one goes!

21. Have, at the very least, a monthly 'date night' with The Hubs.

22. Go to a festival. I don't think I am a Glastonbury kinda girl but there is a local jazz festival I would really like to go too.

23. Become an organ donor.

24. Learn how to Hula Hoop. I have a weighted one to exercise with but I have yet to keep it up for more then 5 seconds.

25. Watch Boyhood. I have heard both good and bad about this movie but I am very intrigued.

26. Donate more regularly to our local food bank.

27. Watch a meteor shower. I think there are a couple in April and May? Not sure if they are visible where we are though? Need to research this one some more!

28. Switch Blog to word press and go self hosted.

29. Learn to sign the alphabet. I have always been interested in learning sign language, I feel this could be a good start!

30. Get more pictures of the three of us together. I have hardly any. This is mainly because I avoid having my picture taken like the plague, not anymore!

It feels weird to be sharing this list, I know it may not seem it but it feels quite personal.

There are now less then 26 weeks until I turn 30, so that doesn't leave a lot of time to tick off all of these things. I hope I can do it and at the very least I hope I enjoy trying.

I am going to keep track of how Im doing each week to help me get it done.

Wish me luck!

Sammy x
